Parham House & GardensA visit to Sussex would not be complete without visiting Parham: idyllically situated in the heart of an ancient deer park, on the slopes of the South Downs, thus much loved family home has much to delight the visitor. The foundation stone of this Elizabethan house was laid in 1577 and since that time only three families have lived at Parham. In 1922 it was bought by the Hon. Clive Pearson and his descendents live there now. The house contains an important collection of paintings, furniture and needlework, and has an enviable reputation for the quality of the fresh flowers arranged in the light, panelled rooms, including the Great Hall and Long Gallery.
The award-winning gardens include a four acre walled garden with stunning herbaceous borders, greenhouse, orchard, potager and herbiary. All the flowers used in the house are home grown. Light lunches and cream teas are sold in the 15th century Big Kitchen. There is also a shop including home grown plant sales.
Event: 2008 Annual Parham Garden Weekend, 12th &13th July, 10.30am-5.00pm. Specialist nurseries and horticultural sundriesmen selling direct to the public, also demonstrations of traditional country woodcrafts.
