Broughton Castle

Historic 14th century fortified manor house enlarged in the 16th century. Home of the family of Lord Saye and Sele for over 600 years. It contains its own medieval chapel, vaulted passages, fine panelling and splendid plaster ceilings and fireplaces. It was a centre of resisistance to King Charles I during the Civil War and contains mementos of the period including armour and weapons.

There are fine walled gardens with old roses, shrubs and herbaceous borders. The castle is surrounded by a broad moat and set in open parkland.

It was a location for the filming of Shakespeare in Love and has featured in many other films and TV programmes.
