Stafford Castle & Visitor CentreCrowning an important Norman archaeological site, Stafford Castle’s ruined Gothic Revival keep is built on the remains of an earlier medieval structure. The castle site consists of: keep, motte and inner and outer baileys. The site also boasts commanding panoramic views over the surrounding countryside.
The Castle has dominated the Stafford landscape for over 900 years of turbulent history. William the Conqueror first build Stafford Castle as a fortress to subdue the local populace. Visitors today will find a more peaceful setting, where you can discover for yourself the dramatic history behind the Castle walls.
The visitor centre, created to represent a Norman guard-house, has an audio-visual display, museum exhibits and a souvenir gift shop. Reproduction period arms and armour is available to try out - a fun hands-on experience for all the family. A full events programme is planned and coaches and group tours are welcome.
