Lamport Hall & GardenIdeally situated in the heart of the lovely Northamptonshire countryside, yet only a short drive from the motorway network, Lamport Hall represents one of the finest examples of Grade I listed houses. Lamport Hall was the home of the Isham family for over four centuries. During the time of the Commonwealth the Hall was developed from a Tudor manor and is now best known for its classical frontage, started by John Webb in 1655 and completed in the 18th century to the design of Francis Smith of Warwick. In addition to its fine rooms, including a superb library, the Hall contains a wealth of outstanding furniture, books, china and paintings collected by the Ishams, many during the third Baronets Grand Tour of Europe in the 1670s. The 12th Baronet, Sir Gyles, created the Lamport Hall Preservation Trust in 1974 to continue the work of completely restoring the house for the benefit of the public. On his death in 1976 he bequeathed the Trust with his Estate and his work is now continued by the Trust, its employees and volunteers. After the tour of the house enjoy a pot of tea in the magnificent Victorian Dining Room. Private groups and coach parties may book guided tours at any time by prior arrangement.
The Hall and grounds are available for hire on an exclusive basis for civil wedding ceremonies, wedding receptions, conference and activity days etc. The Stable yard, Coach House and ancillary buildings are available for fairs, filming, exhibitions, product launches etc. |
